An Epoch
The global energy landscape is at the brink of failure. Unnecessary dependence upon fossil fuels is causing irreparable damage to our environment. Seventy percent of the world’s proven oil reserves are located in the Middle East and North Africa, a fact that exerts tremendous strain upon the economics and politics of global society. The prevailing structure of regulated utilities creates both barriers to the transition away from traditional fuels, and opportunities for swing players to manipulate market prices. The U.S. National Energy Policy1 describes the state of the U.S. energy industry as characterized by “a fundamental imbalance of supply and demand.”
Accelerating this failure is an infrastructure fraught with inadequate design, last-century technology and deferred maintenance. Lacking in transparency and absent sophisticated exchange mechanisms, the grid – as we know it – works to undermine progress and impede a 21st century quality of life. The business-as-usual case is no longer sufficient to meet the world’s energy needs.
Citizenre sees clearly the short comings of this antiquated energy system. We have moved forward to invest time, effort and resources toward the systemic changes the energy infrastructure requires immediately.
Thus, we can predict with certainty that there is a new energy epoch ahead – one that will transform our current energy infrastructure into the energy landscape of tomorrow. This transition -- from today’s failing infrastructure to tomorrow’s energy landscape – promises greater freedom, prosperity and progress for the energy-empowered communities of tomorrow.
